Question: How do you improve your self worth / esteem?

I feel so low. I have no energy, hardly eat anything apart from chocolate, sandwiches and crisps. My job is monotonous, low paid office work and we're treated like children. When I started I'd just graduated, was full of dreams and aspirations, (the job was meant to be temporary) had a gorgeous boyfriend and was thinking of travelling. Now I'm 30, single, starting to feel old, still renting and don't feel I'll ever get to use my arty degree. I'm finding it hard to maintain or make new friendships as I just want to be alone or bring them down. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety about 6 months ago and my doctor prescribed an SSRI. It felt like it was working initially but I've started to notice I've been feeling really down again. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve self esteem ? please help. i want my life back, or a new better one would be great :) Thanks x Thanks everyone! All of your answers were great. Find your happiness and go for it. Write a list of things that make you happy, for example, here's my list: - Taking warm showers - Videogames - Listening to my favorite music really loud - Falling asleep next to a fireplace - Playing and petting my cat - Hot chocolate and popcorn on snowy days I believe that we all have things that make us happy, even if we don't know it yet. You could try things like getting a dog (if you don't have one), getting a haircut and dying your hair red or whatever you want, learning how to play the guitar, etc. You can't have self esteem if you aren't truly happy. Go to a spa, pamper urself have a date with ur boyfreind to a movie(,preferably a comedy) ,, the beach (very relaxing) or anywhere else would like to go, or u could have a girls noght out with sum freinds or a sister or a mom, jst dont think about the bad times and keep ur chin high :) |

It might sound silly, but creating your own food is the best way of eating healthy nutritious meals. Grab yourself a cookbook, get some shopping in and create a meal that you feel sounds really nice. Trust me, a meal you cook yourself always tastes great if you follow the instructions. Improve your self esteem by making yourself look and feel good. If you feel that your not happy with the way you look, then change the way you look. Just small things can make a huge difference to the way you feel. Forget the past, start a new fresh. Make a list of your goals and achievements. Talk to people, they're just like you, normal people with thoughts and feelings. They wont bite. |

You can BEGIN- by looking in your Mirror & asking yourself, "How GOOD am I ? " ! Because the Reality IS- you're NO Worse than ANYBODY Else ! THEN you need to start making some Changes in your Life that will promote some "Self- Respect " ! -Things like eating a BETTER Diet ; looking for a different Job; spending more Quality time with your Friends- etc... EACH of these will make you feel BETTER about yourself- while worrying LESS about how Old you are... And FINALLY; try to "step out of " the Context of your Life more... You're getting "Bogged Down " in a Rut... You need to try out Something DIFFERENT- something maybe alittle "nerve wracking " that will take Your Attention off of YOU- & put it on whatever you're trying to Do... NONE of this with be particularly EASY- at First... But it WILL be worth it- in the LONG run..! Give it a Shot- & good luck! :) |
