Don't worry, lots of people feel like this. Even people who appear to be really confident can be very nervous inside - they might just talk to cover it up. In fact, most of the time when we worry what other people are thinking about us, really they are worrying about what we think of them! In your first few weeks of work, no one expects you to feel confident, so don't feel you have to go in and be all bright and breezy. Just be friendly and smile at people you meet - say hello, and try to remember their names. Mostly people will probably ask you stuff, and you won't have to make conversation. Also, people like to talk about themselves, so to make conversation, ask people about things in their life - live their family, their pets, what they do at the weekend etc. People will be delighted to have someone who will listen. You may find that your self-confidence improves over time as well - I was a really shy teenager, and thought everyone was looking at me all the time. As I got older, I realised that it didn't really matter what others thought of me - what mattered was that I was friendly and trustworthy and worked hard etc., and my self-confidence improved. Try to relax, get a good night's sleep, and enjoy your first day tomorrow! Hope it goes well!! |
