How do you build self-confidence?

Question: How do you build self-confidence?

(Posted by: Happy U on 2008-03-06 10:38:01)

I am 20 years old and lack a lot of self- esteem. I want to overcome this before my next birthday. I've been through a lot in my life, but I want to start a new chapter and/ or beginning with my life. I want to become a more giving, selfless person, but I don't know where to begin. How do you wake up in the morning feeling good, or wanting to purposefully wake up? How do you do it?! Thanks. =)

You will start wanting to jump out of bed in the morning, when you start to feel happy and positive about yourself, and your life. Here's how you start to change things... Write a list of things you'd REALLY like to do. It doesn't matter how wild, outrageous, dangerous, or beyond you these ideas are - just write them down. Now, as your self-esteem and self-confidence are a wee bit fragile at present, start by attempting something small, but, to you, challenging. DARE yourself to do just one small thing that you are nervous even to try! It may be something as tiny as buying an item of clothing that you feel is only for really outgoing people. Or a radical new haircut. Visiting a dry ski slope. Learning to spin and knit. Taking a course in car maintenance. Volunteering for hospital radio. ANYTHING! That first small challenge, will bring an amazing new sense of esteem and confidence - way out of proportion to the tiny achievement you may consider it to be! Even if you go to the ski slope and find it is not something you want to repeat, or the haircut is totally not you, you will have increased your self-confidence by ATTEMPTING it! From there, you keep on setting yourself new challenges, maybe little ones for a while, but as your confidence grows, you will begin to try less comfortable challenges - like buying a flat, changing your job/ career, volunteering in the Third World... sky diving? ;-) Go on... you can do anything, if you really want to! :-)

Was once at a seminar...a guy told us to carry 10 marbles in one pocket...everytime you did or said something nice..you put a marble in the other pocket..couldn't go to bed until all marbles had been moved

The secret is so simple. Look for one new friend who is like yourself . All the friends you have are not the right kind for you. You know yourself so find a copy and you will be able to learn to forgive . The essence of religion is that intelligent people cannot forgive themselves and find love. So give love and find love is the answer. Love god first then your new friend.
