.... There are also many at the library if you do not want to buy one as these can be very expensive. There are also very in depth books that if unaware of what self help actually is about can really be to much for someone, so I would keep it simple at first then go to a more advanced book. The one I recommend people to begin with are John Bradshaws books, the first one being "Healing the Shame that Binds You ". He has others that follow but it is easy reading and one must remember also that in order for this to be applied to ones life, internal work must be done like writing in a journal. Philip McGraw has one called, "SELF Matters, creating your life from the inside out. It is an extremely excellent book with exercises to do in it. After these one can choose whatever one feels would serve one the best. Self help is not just about reading a book, it is a chosen life change and style, so make absolutely sure you are ready for this. It can be at times emotionally, mentally and physically draining because we have to let go of what doesn't work for us anymore and begin to apply what does which is the journey in itself. It is very challenging, but from experience I will tell you it is also very rewarding and I personally would live my life no other way than in being my authentic self. Most all self help books address ones esteem and the reasons for having little to none. Take care and I wish you and your friend much wellness on this road of finding and remaining yourself. |
